課程概述

因應嚴重特殊傳染性肺炎疫情發展，110-1學期開學後前三週全面採遠距教學，本課程使用Webex軟體進行遠距授課。

In this course we examine how globalization affects various types of social determinants of health and health inequalities, which in turn influence individual's health and population health. The course emphasizes on the social and policy aspects of health issues. We will begin with an introduction to the framework of social determinants of health and the typology of policy level interventions to tackle health inequalities. Following that, selected topics will be addressed from a social determinant of health perspective, including health care arrangements, climate change, aging, and employment and work conditions. We will review the state-of-the art knowledge and discuss potential policy interventions to promote health equity both on the domestic and international levels.

課程目標

At the end of the course the students are expected to:
1. understand the key concepts of social determinants of health;
2. comprehend the consequences of globalization on social determinants of health and health inequalities;
3. propose and analyze the different types of health policies to tackle health inequalities.

課程要求

The course is offered in English. Basic understanding of public health and health policy would be helpful but not a prerequisite. Students are expected to read assigned readings prior to the lecture and submit assignments on a weekly basis. Students are also expected to participate in class discussion, and work on a final project which can be done individually or in pair.

1.	Participation	20%	Students are expected to attend the class and participate in class discussion.
2.	Weekly assignments	50%	Students are required to read assigned readings and answer questions in a written format (pick at least 8 sessions). Assignment should be submitted prior to the session.
3.	Final report and oral presentation	30%	Students should write up a short report or commentary on a chosen issue related to "globalization and SDH"(about 2,000 words) and present it to the class. Final report can be done individually or in pair (2 persons).
